Kate, 27 - Development Surveyor

I masterplan and manage the regeneration of cities. I work with communities to create a vision for a neglected part of a city, and then help bring that vision to life - this means working with a whole bunch of different people, ranging from architects, to engineers, to landscapers, to graphic designers and branders.

A-levels

Geography, Economics and History

Degree

I started off studying Law at Bristol and then decided it wasn't for me.
I went on to study Real Estate at the Royal Agricultural University

How I got to where I am now

Work experience was essential for me to get my first job. I called 30 different companies and eventually persuaded a specialist property developer in the 2nd year of uni to let me work for them over the summer.

I then worked at JLL on the graduate scheme completing rotations in different teams, and then moved to my current job at Igloo.

My big tip...

There are so many choices out there and it can seem overwhelming. Try and figure out what interests you and then speak to as many different people as possible. You never know what advice they may be able to offer, and don't be scared of reaching out to strangers!
